Home and valley in the heart
A family shares common values - their hand cream is one of them.
They live in Prättigau, where the mountains set the pace of life and a word still counts: four women, four generations - Nani (93), daughter Annagret (70), granddaughter Sandra (49) and great-granddaughter Mona (18). They share many things: being there for each other, trusting each other, taking responsibility. Nani has always led by example and the same hand cream has been on the kitchen shelf for 50 years.
Roots that support and connect - always always with an open ear
Nani, who everyone just calls Nani, is the heart of this group. Born in 1932, she grew up on the farm, characterised by work and genuine community. She later ran the post office in the village with her husband. Nani was more than just the postman's wife - she was a confidante to many in the village. They laughed, cried and gossiped while delivering post or at the counter. Those who were in trouble came with a parcel, those who were worried with a letter. Nani listened. She did this for the people in the village and to this day for her family. She constantly relied on Tal to care for her stressed hands and passed on her attachment to her hand cream without saying much about it.
Of forbidden make-up and your own trousers
When Annagret was young, there were clear rules: Girls wore skirts, not trousers. «Certain teachers didn't accept trousers on girls,» she says. Make-up was also a secret pleasure for a long time. «We wore make-up before we went out - hidden, of course. If I was caught by my father, I had to take it all off again.» Now she smiles about it, after all, she wears the trousers these days too. Girl power pulsates in the family. Decisions are made spontaneously, but with a great deal of support and, if possible, a pinch of humour.
The generations - different, but interwoven
Sandra, the third member of the team, holds the threads between tradition and the present together. «She makes sure everything works. Sometimes a little over-motivated, but always with heart,» says Mona about her mum. Sandra, on the other hand, laughs: «Maybe so - but better too much energy than too little.» She manages the balancing act between two worlds: growing up without the internet, now in the centre of it. «The pressure on young women to always look beautiful and well-groomed has become very high. In the past, competition was only in the moment. Today it's online 24 hours a day.»
A scent of reliability
The tube was on the shelf in the drugstore in Küblis one day. Nani can't remember exactly what it was. But suddenly it was there - and it stayed. Tal hand cream has found its place in every household. Nani now loves the Tal dispenser as it works very well with shaky hands. The men in the family also use it - quietly and naturally. Annagret buys a double pack of Tal. «I always have one or two unopened tubes at home - as a souvenir. It always goes down well.» Because hand care is not a luxury here, but an expression of care.
The world at a glance
Mona, the youngest, has both feet firmly planted in the present. She is in favour of peace and prefers to avoid arguments. Characteristics that she shares with Nani, who is 75 years older to the day. «I am also characterised by my Prättigau roots - wait, see, then act. But I also like discovering new things and love travelling.» She laughs when Nani talks about her only beach holiday in Italy: «My husband thought it was nice on the first day, boring on the second, and on the third he said: It's much nicer on the Maiensäss. On the fourth, we were back home.»
There it is again: that Prättigau humour - dry, direct, heartfelt. Some things need a moment here. But when something really hits the spot. This is exactly how the Tal hand cream was once created. Developed 50 years ago at home, it is now in demand in Dubai, China and the United Arab Emirates.
50 years of Tal
A limited retro edition of the first Tal hand cream is now available to celebrate Tal's 50th birthday. An elegant nod to the beginnings and a powerful sign for the future.
